In Spanish I, we will be learning the basics of the Spanish language, including greetings, ways to say goodbye, numbers, alphabet, etc. There will be emphasis placed on the four domains of communication which are: reading, listening, writing and speaking. Our goal is learn basic grammatical structures and vocabulary in Spanish, and apply them to every day situations. You will be exposed not only to common phrases and ways of speaking in Spanish, but also to cultural differences between the United States and other Spanish speaking countries. Spanish I is a speaking intensive course, in which students will be expected to speak in front of the class (presentational) and to their seat partners (interpersonal).
What themes will I be learning in Spanish I?
Our Spanish Department here at Northwest will be using a variety of different texts to reach our goals within our curriculum. I will provide you with access to these materials. You will learn... - Greetings, Goodbyes, Numbers, Telling Time, Alphabet, Weather, Months of the Year, Days of the Week, School Supplies, Parts of the Body - What you like to do, actions and activities in Spanish. Introduction to verbs in Spanish. - How you can describe yourself, adjectives, ways to describe our friends, family, teachers, etc. - School, your classes, what your favorite class is, where things are located (prepositional phrases). - Food, favorite foods, restaurants, breakfast, lunch, and dinner and what is healthy/unhealthy. - Places in the community, favorite places and what you do in those places. - Family, all about your family tree and how to describe members of the family and pets. - Your bedroom, furniture and about your bedroom, we learn colors too! - Your house, furniture and where rooms are in your house. - Clothing.
What will I need to be successful in Spanish I?
Supplies needed for Spanish I include the following: To minimize the spread of germs, we highly recommend each student bring their OWN supplies. - Composition Notebook (100 pages at least) - Each student should have their own set of colored pencils - Pencils, pens, highlighter(s) - Glue sticks! - One folder (for handouts) - Each student should have their own set of white board markers - Strongly recommend a planner with calendar for organization! - Notebook paper
*Recommended - A planner or agenda where you can organize deadlines and due dates for all of your classes. To keep organization and avoid feeling overwhelmed, try writing down everything important in a planner.
